Seattle: A Little Skip Over the Border

I am lucky enough to live in an area where I can hop across the border and enjoy myself in an interesting city such as Seattle.  Seattle is similar enough to Vancouver in terms of climate  and culture, yet different enough to make one feel like they are travelling. One of my favourite places to visit when I am in Seattle is Pike Place Market. Before entering the market, make sure you grab a cup of coffee at the original Starbucks across the street. Then with a warm cup of java in your hand, head over to Pike Place.

Pike Place Market is Seattle’s original farmers market, but it has so much more than the typical fruit and vegetables. As I walk through the market, I hear men yelling and fish flying through the air. Looking to my right, I see a fish market and a lively bunch of men; hollering out orders and packaging up all types of seafood. A little past the flying fish stand is a delectable cheese booth as well as other artisanal food shops.  Besides all the food you could ask for, there is a charming used book store, a few art galleries, a handcrafted jewellery shop, and a fresh flower market.  This bustling market has something for everyone and you won’t leave empty-handed.

A few key places to visit or things to do if you are in Seattle:

1. Pike Place Market

2. Seattle Space Needle

3. Check out the NFL’s Seahawks at Century Link Field

4. Watch the Mariners play ball

5. Shop at the Premium Outlets

6. Sit on a waterfront patio and enjoy a thirst-quenching cocktail
