Travel Was My First Love

travel was my first loe Travel was my first love. For years, I have been in this thrilling relationship with travel. We've had our ups and our downs, but overall travel has been my all-consuming passion. Every time I think I am close to achieving my bucket list, the world throws a "new" destination, a new adventure, or a new idea in my path.

Why do I consider travel to be my first love? There are so many reasons. The world is full of inspiration and adventure.
Travelling opened up my eyes to new cultures and new challenges. The idea of being in a country where I do not know the language is exhilarating. Simple things, such as ordering dinner becomes a challenge. Am I going to get chicken for supper ? I don’t really know. Guess I’ll find out. Or, where will I end up if I get on this bus? The Thai symbols look similar to what the hostel wrote down for me.  It is these simple things while travelling that make the adventure. I thrive on the challenges, however big or small they may be.

Another reason why I love to travel is the skills you develop while on the road. Negotiation is one of them. I don’t mean haggling a poor soul over the cost of a bracelet, but learning to compromise on what is fair for you and another party. Negotiating is a skill that will get you far in your work life as well as your personal life. Another useful skill is not fretting the small (or big!) stuff. Sometimes we constantly worry over the smallest things: What should I wear today?; What did that person think of me?; I’m going to be late for dinner. When I first started travelling, there were a lot of things that would make me worry, such as missing a bus or losing a hotel reservation. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal. I’ve missed buses and was able to get on another one. I’ve shown up for flights only to find out that it’s been cancelled. So what do I do? Usually have a nap. Worrying over every little thing is not going to get me anywhere in life. I might as well make the best of the situation.

Since I have gotten back from Spain in June, I have been thinking and thinking of where I want to go to next. I want to visit a destination that is out of my norm for travel, but is somewhere that I have been dying to go. I decided for my 27th birthday next week that I was going to go somewhere amazing…check another place off my ever-growing bucket list.  Where am I going? You’ll have to wait and see!
