Another year, another new beginning is upon us! 2015 was an eventful year and looking back, I did a lot that I set out to do. Some of the highlights of the year were going on a safari in South Africa, listening to amazing bands at Squamish Valley Music Festival, paragliding off of Signal Hill in Cape Town, climbing volcanoes in Nicaragua, and hiking a portion of the Sunshine Coast Trail. Now that it is 2016, here are a few things you should keep in mind for the upcoming year. After a mere 28 years of living, these are a few of my favourite mantras for this year. After all, 2016 is your year; make the best of it.
Prioritize what’s important
Plan your life around things that truly matter to you.
It’s your life. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for living it your way.
Want to splurge on a new camera? Drive down the coast? Enrol in a new class? Do what you want to do. After all, you’re the one living your life, not them.
Say ‘yes’ to new adventures, experiences, foods, whatever!
Who knows, maybe trying that new Thai restaurant will inspire you to get the real-deal Tom Yum in Thailand.
Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary.
Don’t use the word ‘gonna’.
I’m ‘gonna’ do this. I’m ‘gonna’ go there. Stop saying you’re ‘gonna’ do something. Just make it happen.
Don’t try to be someone else. Just be you.
Everything that you have done, experienced, wanted to do, regretted doing, has gotten you to this point in your life. If you’ve made mistakes, learn from them. If you were happy doing something, continue with it.
